Winamp 5 - Final!!!

The latest version of Nullsofts Winamp player is now available. Winamp 5 is a great media player. I've been using the beta for the past few weeks and the finally version is working great. You can download it at www.winamp.com. I highly recommend it. :GREATNEWS:

UPDATE:
However I am sadden to have to give a warning to any parent who has a broadband connection (even dial up on a limited basis). Inside the Internet TV section, where you can watch video streams. Some one has posted p0rn (obviously labeled as p0rn, its not hidden). This is streaming video, so it’s not downloaded and saved on your computer. It’s the same as listening to an online radio station. Now not to give Winamp blame, they didn’t put it there. The Internet TV list is a public index that works the same way as Shoutcast (Internet Radio) (www.shoutcast.com).

I discovered these feeds last night. I’ve e-mailed Winamp if there is a way to filter this out this morning. I doubt I get a reply since this is a major software release, and I imagine they will be flooded with e-mail for the next few days.

Like I said, Winamp 5 is a great player, and I recommend it. However, I thought I would pass along this warning to any parent that this is there. Hopefully the Winamp people will see this and fix it or something. (They could before you read this). I’m not for censoring content or anything, but this kind of thing should not be in a public list.

If you download Winamp 5; this is how to get to the Internet TV. From Winamp, Open Media Library, Click on Internet TV in side menu, click the Refresh button. (Everything is labeled so it’s easy to find the Media Library).

Update 2: (12/19/03) The next version of Winamp 5 (5.01) should have a content filter on it. Its in the offical winamp 5 wishlist.

Update 3: (12/20/03) Winamp 5.01 is now available for download. Now has Internet TV Content Rating

This new version is easy to use and very nicely put together.
Looks like I’m not the only one out there that noticed this. There is a forum topic going on just about this at the Winamp Forums:

So here is one solution to prevent your younger kids from seeing the unwanted tv streams.

*****

Prevent Internet Radio and TV from being accessed through the Media Library... press CTRL+P to open Preferences > General Preferences > Media Library
Under the Internet Radio/TV tab, UNcheck the checkbox to the left of Show Internet Radio and Internet TV views in media library

*****

Of course I wish this option was split up so you can keep Internet Radio, but just remove Internet TV.

I’ve been visited by people looking for it, I just know it. The instant gratification tells me the refering page. I’ve had 3 come in from google. Looking for the words Winamp, Internet TV and P0rn. Geesh. I sure hope this was just a hot topic for these people and they are not coming looking for the stuff. Sexy though I am.
Yeah! Internet TV Filtering. Now I can give Winamp 5 a bigger thumbs up than before.

Download Winamp 5.01 for your media playing needs!
