Home Office Make Over
The time has finally come to remodel our home office / guest bedroom. What prompted this latest DIY project was having one of our closets collapse.

Our upstairs bedrooms have no closet space to speak off. So we've been using a couple of $30 put-together closets to make up for it. These closets are just not designed for years of daily ware and tear. Oh and we have a cat who thinks they are her personal play things. Needless to say they collapse from time to time. So we either repair or replace them. Now is such a time.

Also the home office / guest bedroom had over time ended up being the catch-all room. Stacks of boxes, sacks, clothes, and miscellany filled every corner and aligned every wall. Not a good way to spend a clutter free life I'm sure. So it became time to clean, organize, and just simply start over in that room.

So I spent this past weekend removing everything from that room I could. I ended up moving furniture, computer and office equipment, piles of clothes, boxes, and several trash bags full of whatever to various places through out the house. Funny when you set out to clean up one room you end up cluttering up another.

When I finally got the room empty it was time to do something we should have done before we moved in, remove the nasty old yellow shag carpeting. It was a few hours of dusty back breaking labor to pull up this carpet. It took longer than you would think it would because the carpeting was very old and it tore easily. So it was rip up a section, roll it up, and toss it out the window. Under the carpeting was some padding. For some reason the padding was overly stapled to the floor. This alone took some time to rip up and in the same manner as the carpeting. Tear up a section, fold it up, and toss it out the window.

Sometime in the late afternoon I finished. All the carpeting and padding had been removed revealing a not in to bad of shape wooden floor. Unfortunately the rest of the week will be spent pulling up lots of staples and nails. After that we'll decide if we're going to leave the floor uncarpeted or not. I guess that will all depend on carpeting estimates.

The last thing I had to do this weekend was hook the home network back up. Wouldn't want the family be without Internet for the rest of the remodel now would we?

We still have some decisions to make for the room, such as weather or not we are going to paint the walls, and if so what color.

More to come on the remodel later. For now, I'm tired.
