I've been having a problem with an
iLo DVD Recorder (DVDR05/MU). The unit would not detect any blank media (Maxel DVD-R) I put it. After near an hour of putting in disc after disc, it would finally read and let me format. I sent an e-mail to iLo's tech support (over a week ago) and received this display:
Dear Customer,
We do not recommend using Memorex, Maxell, TDK, or Ilo disk! Please also
do not use DVD-R/RW disks, these disks are not compatible with our DVD
recorders. However you may record with DVD+R/RW disks, these are best to
operate with our DVD recorders. Please verify that your other DVD player
is able to playback DVD+R/RW disc and that the brand you are buying is
compatible with your other DVD player or not.If you go to the "setup" menu,
then go to the "help" menu there is a list of compatible media. Such as
Sony, Fuji, Verbatim, HP, etc... A firmware update is recommended,
download both updates and burn them on to two separate disk as image
files. Load into the ilo unit and it should say update on the front of the
unit, on the screen it will ask if you really want to update press "yes",
it will take about two minutes to update. When it is finished it should say
successful.
Thank You,
ilo Customer Service
I did the firmware update before I e-mailed support. You know they should really put this information in the documentation. Memorex, Maxell, TDK, or Ilo discs not recommended? Ilo?? WTF? Isn't that the brand label?

wwwLooked for that Help menu option the above e-mail said had the compatibility list in it. Couldnt find it. Im beginning to think the tech support reply was done by some part time help desk personal looking in the big book of FAQs.

wwwI dont know if Ill ever NOT buy iLo products again, since that is just a label Walmart puts on its electronics.
The iLo DVD Recorder was itself done by two different manufactures.
Ive given up on the iLo DVD Recorder for now, and I'm going to go get a different brand of DVD recorder.

emailMy uncle bought a DVDR05/MU in U.S.A and your DVD Recorder isnīt working. The DVD Recorder donīt read any cdīs like CD-R, RW, and any format like, mp3, wma, and others. But, the manual informs that the recorder can do this. The bigest problem is that we live in Brazil and canīt go to the store where we bought it. Please, I want know if someone know how to reset the system because we tryied to change the area to 0 and before done this it stops to runing completly informing: no disk. We changed the area to one and like when he bought and we had no results.
Thank

emailAfter I got it to work a couple of times, I threw away the box & receipt. Now Walmart wont take it back. I hate this thing with a passion! Id like to take the pistol and shoot it up but it will play rentals. From now on Im going to support my local Radio Shack for better equipment and tech support.

emailI bought an ilo dvd recorder to record shows for my husband currently serving in Iraq. After recording many shows and getting about 6 or 7 disks together, and yes I finalized the disks, I sent them over seas. when he got them he could only get one to play, can you imagine his disapointment! Then tried playing regular dvd and it would not play, I called walmart and got a number to call when and if I ever got a person, they could not help me, they always gave me another number to call!! I am so angry to have wasted my money on this product and being a military family, we dont have a lot of it!!! If someone has any suggestions on how to rectify this problem please let me know!!
