I've decided to Take advantage of Tumbrl's embed javascript and added a new page here. ust click on the Tumblr link above. Going to try and not load so many videos here in the Blog. Instead I'll just post them to Tumblr. Think I may add one for del.icio.us too.
UPDATE 4PM: Made a Bookmarks page and rebuilt the Links and Live pages.
Marking out, a moment of enjoying professional wrestling "for what it is" rather than analyzing its staged nature.
On last night's WWE RAW, live from Oklahoma City, we saw C.M. Punk win the World Title from Edge. This was one of those few occasions I totally marked out on. After we witnessed Batista beat down Edge I turned to my wife and said, "If they were clever C.M. Punk would run out." Not 1 minute after I said that C.M. Punk's music hit. Total mark out on my part. I didn't even care if he held the title no more than the hour, it was worth it. Well played. Oh for the record he defeated JBL to keep the title. We get to have C.M. Punk as World Champ for another week.
Just finished my first screencast for the Blog Oklahoma podcast. I used Camtasia Studio to make it. The audio is a bit off since I used Camtasia to record the narration. I also did the narration after the fact. I'll need to learn how to record the audio while doing the screen capture next time. I'm uploading to YouTube right now. Should have it up sometime after lunch. I'll be posting it to Libsyn a bit later. I had to upgrade to 250MB/mo, found I was going to be out of room this month. I hope to do more of these screencasts, so thought it a good idea go ahead and bump it up to the $10 plan.
I've been testing out some new ways to do a radius query with the historic places database at BlogOklahoma.us. Meaning you pick a city and get back all the historic places listed within a given mile radius.
To make this work I had to find a list of Oklahoma zip codes with longitude and latitude to import into the database. I found a free one at Sourceforge: The Zip Code Database Project. Very handy. I'll be using it in other projects.
I also had to search around to learn how to query a longitude and latitude radius. I've bookmarked at del.icio.us some the references I found useful.
Not every Oklahoma community is listed. The reason is because not every community has a zip code. Many of the smaller Oklahoma communities have rural route addresses. Check out the Zip code pages in your Yellowbook (Feist). Just pick the closet city and increase the radius.
I purposely set searching between 5 and 50 miles. I did this to limit the amount of sites returned.
My hope is to someday have a way GPS enabled mobile devices (like the new iPhone) can show you the historic places near you.
I was doing a little house work on Saturday, and thought I would take the time to clean up the home entertainment center since we got a new TV. I'm not sure what I did, but I wretched my back something awful. I spent most of Sunday laying on the couch just dreading getting up. I have one of those injuries where it really hurts when you transition between sitting and standing. I probably just pulled a muscle, but damn! I'm at work right now and I already can tell when out of this office chair, it's not going to be a pleasant experience. Well I have a desk draw full of ibuprofen, and I don't have to get out of this chair too often, so I'll make it through the day. I swear it was just like Dana Carvey said on his HBO Comedy special "Squatting Monkeys Tell No Lies", as you get older you get hurt for no reason.
CNN -- "Comedian-actor George Carlin, known for his raunchy but insightful humor, died of heart failure Sunday in Los Angeles, his publicist said. He was 71."
I was shocked to hear George Carlin had passed away this morning. He was one of those few timeless comedians who's early stuff was just as relevant and funny as his latest stuff. I would always go out of my way to watch one of his HBO specials. I even have a few of his comedy albums and listen to them regularly. You'll be missed George, but always remembered.
Blog Oklahoma and I get a mention in the July/August 2008 edition of Oklahoma Today magazine. Check out "Virtual Pioneers" on page 46.
The current Blog Oklahoma member count isn't up to date though. This article must have been submitted before the semi-annual list clean up last October.
Well that iLo HDTV, I've repeatedly complained about, is about to be replaced. The source select button no longer works. Lucky its locked on the DVI input where we have our DirecTV plugged into. The only thing keeping us from getting a new TV was the iLo, though crippled, was still working. Well this is the final straw. I'm thinking of getting a Visio.
